Kerala 2025: CSE SM last ranks at the top 10 engineering colleges

2026-07-20

If you're chasing a Computer Science seat through KEAM, the number that matters is the State Merit (SM) last rank — the rank of the final candidate admitted in the open merit list. We computed these from the official 2025 allotment data for every engineering-stream college offering the core CSE branch. Here are the ten that closed tightest.

CSE (SM) last ranks, KEAM 2025

#CollegeSM last rank
1College of Engineering, Thiruvananthapuram (CET)482
2Govt. Engineering College, Thrissur933
3Model Engineering College, Ernakulam1,546
4TKM College of Engineering, Kollam1,804
5Mar Athanasius College of Engineering, Kothamangalam2,477
6Govt. Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Technology, Kottayam3,719
7Government Engineering College, Palakkad3,794
8Government College of Engineering, Kannur3,974
9NSS College of Engineering, Palakkad3,999
10Rajagiri School of Engineering and Technology, Ernakulam4,994

Reading the ladder

The top three are in a league of their own. CET Thiruvananthapuram closed at 482, Thrissur at 933, and Model Engineering College at 1,546. If CET CSE is your target, you effectively need a KEAM rank inside the top ~500 — there is no soft landing above that line.

A distinct second band sits between 1,800 and 4,000. TKM Kollam and MACE Kothamangalam bridge into it, and then four colleges — RIT Kottayam, GEC Palakkad, GEC Kannur and NSS Palakkad — close within just 280 ranks of each other (3,719 to 3,999). For a candidate ranked around 3,500, the ordering of these four on your option list barely changes your odds; pick by location and campus preference, not by tiny cutoff gaps.

One aided/self-financing college cracks the ten. Rajagiri (Ernakulam) at 4,994 closes ahead of many government colleges — brand and placement record pull demand even at higher fees.

Two useful adjacents from the same 2025 data: CET's Electrical and Computer Engineering closed at SM rank 1,774 — inside the Model Engineering College CSE cutoff — making it a genuine backdoor into the CET campus for sub-2,000 ranks. Similarly, Model Engineering College's Computer Science and Business Systems closed at 3,390, well after its core CSE seat was gone.

Rules of thumb for your option list

  1. Front-load the dream, but anchor the band. Ranks are consumed in order, so listing CET first costs nothing even at rank 3,000 — but make sure the 3,700-4,000 quartet is on your list before round one closes.
  2. Specialisation seats are the pressure valve. At almost every top college, the AI/ML, Data Science and CSBS variants closed 1,500-3,000 ranks later than core CSE.
  3. SM is the tightest lens. Category last ranks (EZ, MU, EW and others) close later at every college here — check your own category's figures separately.

Last ranks change with seat matrices, options behaviour and rounds each year, and this analysis covers the core CSE branch under the engineering stream only. Verify every figure against the official last-rank details published by the Office of the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations (CEE), Kerala at cee.kerala.gov.in before finalising your options.
